A thermal imaging gun using at the half-way point, showed a 20 degree temperature difference between the old side and the new side coated with spray foam insulation (and that was just on a mild April day)!!

The weakest links in a traditional commercial roof system are the seams and flashings. Over time, these seams and flashings begin to fail and ultimately begin to leak. Because foam roof systems are spray applied, they are seamless and self-flashing. They form a monolithic system, thus eliminating the potential for leaks.

Foam Roof Systems are More Energy Efficient Than Traditional Roof Options

One of the biggest advantages of foam roof systems is that they can greatly improve the energy efficiency of the building. The superior insulative properties of spray foam combined with reflective coatings reduce summer roof temperatures, solar heat gain, and winter radiant heat loss. This leads to a reduction in energy costs resulting from heating and cooling of the building.

We are asked by customers all the time what is the biggest cause of energy loss in their home. While there are many factors to consider, the biggest cause of energy loss in the home is typically air leakage.

Air leakage results in the heated or cooled air (depending on the season) to escape from the home, resulting in the need to heat or cool additional air to keep a desired indoor temperature.
Air Leakage in the average home, even in newer homes, is a larger problem than most homeowners realize. Because of poor building codes with respect to minimal insulation, most homes suffer from significant air leakage.

The fact of the matter is that fiberglass batts and blown fiberglass insulation, probably the most popular forms of home insulation, are not very good insulating materials when it comes to stopping air leakage. Fiberglass batts do not fill the wall cavities very well and have a difficult time fitting around obstructions in the walls such as water pipes, gas pipes and electrical boxes. Because they do not confirm very well, there are often big gaps and cavities where air leakage can occur.

Spray foam can cost more on the front end than other attics options such as blown fiberglass or cellulose, but that added cost can pay for itself in as little as 24-36 months in a typical home with a family of four.

In our opinion, applying spray foam insulation to an existing home’s attic is one of the best home improvements an owner can make in order to reduce energy loss and cut their monthly bills.

Airlock Insulation is a Mississippi-based spray foam insulation contractor. We are based in the Jackson metro area, and service all of Mississippi and parts of Alabama, Louisiana and Tennessee.
